Axiom Raises Over $27,000 for Fisher House Foundation

October 19, 2006

Falls Church, Virginia. After a stretch of rainy days, the sun came out on Wednesday, October 18, for Axiom Resource Management’s Annual Charity Golf Tournament in support of Fisher House Foundation. The tournament was held on the Woodlawn Course at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, and raised $27,108. This is Axiom’s third tournament in support of the Fisher House program, with the grand total raised for the three years surpassing $63,000. By special arrangement, all proceeds will be dedicated to supporting the operations of Fisher Houses in the Washington, DC, area.

“This was a phenomenal event because of the heartfelt support of many people,” said Kevin Riley, Axiom partner. “We had 144 golfers, which is the highest number possible. People want to support the American heroes whom Fisher House Foundation serves. It was especially meaningful to have seven former or current Fisher House residents play golf with us in the tournament.”

Dave Coker, President of Fisher House Foundation, spoke at the post-golf luncheon. He noted that a total of 35 Fisher Houses are located on the campuses of 23 military and veterans medical centers, offering military families the chance to lodge as close as possible to loved ones who require hospitalization for wounds, illness, or serious injury. He also said that because of the generosity of so many Americans in support of the Fisher House program, the $10 per night lodging fee has been eliminated, and service members and families can stay in Fisher Houses at no cost. The program also provides free air travel to families so they can join their loved ones at a Fisher House during the period of recovery or rehabilitation.

For the second year in a row, a Fisher House resident won the longest drive contest. Staff Sergeant Brian Donarski, U.S. Army, captured this honor and took a few minutes to speak about his total commitment to his fellow soldiers, his dedication to their mission, his pride in being an American, and his appreciation for the support of the Fisher House program. It was an extremely powerful and touching moment.

SSgt. Donarski was joined by current or former Fisher House residents SSgt. Chris Bain, U.S. Army; Lance Corporal Chris Hahn, USMC; Sgt. Brian Radke, U.S. Army National Guard, and his wife Nova Radke; and Specialist Rob Kislow, U.S. Army.

“This was a great day,” said Axiom partner Doug Peardon. “I can’t think of a better way to spend a day than helping Fisher House Foundation and the inspiring people they serve.”
